Over £650,000 raised since the first challenge in 2013

The Welcome Break Nine Hour Challenge on Saturday 23rd September 2017 involves a combination of mountain biking and hiking options through the stunning trails and peaks of the Langdale Pikes in the Lake District, the aim being to complete your chosen route in under nine hours.  All participants are accompanied by experienced guides to show them the way and to keep then safe, with food and rest stops all en route.

 The morning route options are:

  • "black" bike:  38km with 1,000 metres of ascent
  • "red" bike:     30km with 800 metres of ascent
  • "green" hike:  10km walk with 600 metres of ascent

The afternoon route options are:

  • "black" hike:  12km with 800 metres of ascent
  • "red" hike:     10km with 600 metres of ascent

The most challenging “black” route combination therefore involves 50km distance and 1,800m of ascent, whilst the most popular combination is the 42km “red” bike and “black" hike.  There is a 20km "green" hike only route for those with an aversion to two wheels!
